Joe Cooper Ford of Edmond

So, you’re ready to get out there and start test driving vehicles? And perhaps a new Ford vehicle has caught your attention so you’re planning on stopping in to see our team to take a test drive. Before you rush on in, we want to go over a few test driving tips that you should know before coming to see our team. Our goal is to help you get the most out of your time with your selected vehicle. So take a look at these tips, put them to good use, and stop by to see our team to take a test drive when you’re ready!

Call Ahead – it’s a great idea to call ahead to either schedule a test drive with our team or to ensure that the vehicle you were hoping to test drive is still available at the dealership.

Before You Drive –  before heading out for the test drive, take a few minutes to go over the features on the inside and check out the interior cabin. Having a list of features you were hoping for as a checklist can help greatly here. Take a look under the hood, in the trunk, the backseat – can you picture yourself in this vehicle? The available features are important to understand before moving further in the test drive.

Drive Your Normal Route – most often, people don’t test drive the vehicle on their current route or roads they travel most often. This is important because it can help you get a feel for how the vehicle will perform on your most traveled routes. Be sure to test the brakes and accelerate gently up to speed a few times to test the driveline. We’re testing how the vehicle shifts. Does it feel smooth and natural?

Around The Tires – once you arrive back, be sure to spend some time look at the tires and wheels that are currently on the vehicle. Are the inner and outer sidewalls smooth and free of any damage, scuffed or ripped? Do the tires have good tread or what’s their rating?

Summertime is here and it’s quickly coming to a close. But temperatures are still heating up and it’s time to cool down behind the wheel of a brand new Ford vehicle! Hey friends! We know this summer might be looking a little different these days but one thing that is for sure if that you can still get out for a day trip and enjoy the great outdoors! If you’ve found yourself in this situation and you’re ready to hit the road with your pooch, we have some tips to help you have a seamless time! Check out our pet travel tips below and be sure to stop in to see our team if you’re ready to upgrade your vehicle this July!

Never leave your pet alone in the vehicle. Never. Ever. Repeat, never ever leave your pet alone in your vehicle. When traveling, plan your bathroom stops in dog-friendly places like pet stores.

Make sure your vehicle is ready for the trip. Whether you just stopped in to have service or it’s been some time, make sure that everything seems to be in proper working order. The last thing you need is to be dealing with a breakdown or broken AC along the way.

Start early in the day. While summer temperatures are high in the mornings too, it’s a great idea to start the day early while temperatures are at their lowest. Take your pet for a walk or a little exercise while the temperatures are still bearable.

Freeze water. Freezing your water the night before offers cooler drinks the next day. While we recommend freezing two water bottles for you and your pet, we also recommend keeping a few bottles that are not frozen. And we recommend packing twice as much water as you think you’ll need – a good rule of thumb.

Offer water often. Sometimes when traveling we forget to take a drink of water and if we’re forgetting, so is our pet. So it’s important to offer water often to ensure they are staying hydrated throughout the day. Also, grab a collapsible water bowl, they offer convenience and are easy to clean.

Beware of the pavement. When temperatures are climbing, the asphalt temperature is hot as well. When you stop to hop out for a potty break or to stretch the legs, look for shady areas with grass. This will keep your pet from burning their paws. If you can’t find a grassy area, spread a towel on the ground to protect their paws while stretching or pour some water on the ground to cool it off.

Watch out for signs of heat stress. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are very dangerous conditions that even our pets can suffer from. Look out for lethargy, vomiting, agitation, uncontrollable panting, foaming at the mouth, and tongue and gums that turn from red to blue to gray. And always consult your veterinarian before traveling with your pet.

Gearing up for a summer trip? Whether that trip is a vacation or just a trip to the grocery store, we’re here to help you with a few tips to ensure that your vehicle stays cool this summer! From minor ways to help you along the way to some major services, we encourage you to complete these before heading out anywhere this summer. No one likes a breakdown, so follow these simple steps to ensure a fun, safe, cool, and easy summer! Got questions? Contact our team today!

  • Make sure your vehicle’s battery is ready for high temperatures. Most people think battery issues only happen in the winter with colder temperatures, but that isn’t always true. In fact, the summer heat can have a more negative impact than the freezing temperatures. Have your battery checked and replaced to ensure no issues.
  • Keep your engine cool when things get hot. Your cooling systems protect your vehicle’s engine from overheating and should be flushed every once in a while. Between flushes, ensure that coolant levels are at proper levels. And NEVER open your radiator cap when the engine is hot when checking levels.
  • Keep your tires properly inflated at all times. Under-inflated tires and hot temperatures are known to cause blowouts. It’s important to check your PSI levels at least once a month and be sure to check your spare tire as well.
  • Keep fluids at appropriate levels. From engine fluids to windshield washer fluids, it’s important to check up on these levels during the year. If you are not comfortable with this, we recommend stopping in to see our team and we will top off your fluids!
  • Stay prepared for breakdowns. It’s important to prepare yourself for any event that may occur while you’re on the road, this includes breakdowns. Packing an emergency kit can help in a variety of ways. And investing in AAA or roadside assistance might be worth the penny upfront!

Things are getting hot hot hot. And while temperatures are rising, that means the same is happening inside our vehicles. And we all know that nothing is worse than jumping in your vehicle and burning your legs because you’re in a rush! This week, we have a few ways to help regulate those hot temperatures in your ride. Check out those tips below and if you’re ready to upgrade into a new Ford, you know where to find our team! Hint: it’s in the air conditioning right here at Joe Cooper Ford of Edmond! So, come cool off and let our team help you find a new vehicle!

Park in a garage, if/ when possible.

  • If it’s possible, park your vehicle in a garage. This will keep your vehicle out of direct sunlight and you will benefit from the near-constant shade. Even a warm garage beats a vehicle parked in the sun baking in the sun.

Keep your windows cracked.

  • While it’s not a good idea to leave your windows all the way open, we recommend leaving your windows slightly cracked when you exit when temperatures are high. Even a crack will promote ventilation and can help keep your vehicle cool.

Invest in a solar-powered fan.

  • Paired with cracked windows, a solar-powered fan can make your car feel cooler even on the hottest of summer days. These fans work to remove hot air from your car by creating constant air circulation, these fans lower your car’s overall temperature.

Place blankets over your seats.

  • If your vehicle has either leather or vinyl seating, you know just how hot these materials can get when exposed to sunlight and/ or increased temperatures. In order to keep your seats cool. Try placing a blanket or towel over them when you exit your vehicle. When you return, remove the blanket or towel. This will keep you from burning your legs on the hot seats.

Leave your doors open before getting in.

  • Before hopping into your vehicle, consider leaving your doors open for a few moments to allow the hot air to exit the vehicle. This can help regulate the temperature before you enter and take off to your next adventure.

Summer is heating up and we want to make sure you and your family are staying safe when you’re out in the hot summer sun! Below are our top 10 sun protection tips we hope you’ll put to good use this summer! And of course, if you want to upgrade into a brand new Ford, the team at Joe Cooper Ford of Edmond is ready to assist you! See you soon!
