Synthetic Oil Change Service

EVERYONE NEEDS OIL CHANGES REGULARLY

You know that your car needs an oil change. That said, it no longer seems like the simple process it used to be. If you check websites, they’ll offer half a dozen different oil change services. What are the differences? Which one do you really need? The topic can feel complicated, but when you understand the difference between a tradition and synthetic oil change, it gets simple pretty quickly.

SYNTHETIC OIL

Despite the fancy words, a synthetic oil change is a basic oil change. The only difference is that the service will use all synthetic oil instead of traditional motor oil. That’s important for two reasons. First, synthetic oil is better at cleaning the lubrication system of contaminants, so a synthetic change can be great for older vehicles. Second, a lot of newer vehicles are designed specifically for synthetic oil; using anything else can be harmful. The full service will replace all of the oil and the oil filter. It will also inspect all of the fluids in the vehicle and check the tire pressure. In essence, an oil change is a service that ensures your vehicle is in good basic repair.

WHAT IF I WAIT TO CHANGE THE OIL?

This question has disturbed every mechanic in the business. Putting off an oil change for a week might not be devastating, but too many drivers extend oil changes much longer than is safe. Motor oil, whether synthetic or not, degrades overtime when it is exposed to heat. As that happens, it becomes more viscous and more prone to picking up contaminating particles. Left unchecked, the oil will eventually cause the entire engine to seize. When that happens, there is no repair. The entire engine has to be replaced. Even if you don’t push it that far, delaying oil changes still forces the engine to operate with degraded oil. Such oil is less adept at doing its job of lubricating the moving parts, and it leads to increased engine wear. Regular oil changes are one of the most important components of extending your vehicle’s life. There is good news. Synthetic oil is specifically designed to withstand heat better than its traditional counterpart. When you go all synthetic, you actually get more mileage before you need your next service.
